Pyzano’s Lounge and Grill is more than just a typical bar and grill. It’s actually a full-service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. It opens at 9 a.m. every day in time for the lazy breakfast crowd. It also caters to the late night revelers, staying open ‘til midnight every day except Fridays and Saturdays, when it is open until 1 a.m.

As a full service restaurant, the menu is more than adequate to appeal to everyone’s palate. The most obvious menu item is the New York-style gourmet pizza with freshly-made pizza sauce, hand-cut vegetables, whole-milk mozzarella cheese and dough made fresh daily.

Additionally, there are appetizers, chicken dishes, hamburgers, sub sandwiches, salads and typical entrees like spaghetti and meatballs, fettuccini, fish and chips, and sirloin steak. Combined with a complete breakfast menu and happy hour and you have a comfortable and appealing restaurant and lounge all in one room.

The entertainment is enough to keep anyone occupied. DJs Kevin and Kim bring Karaoke on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. until closing. On Friday nights, live music is featured by various bands including Party of Four, who played on July 31.

This band’s repertoire includes a wide range of dance, rock and pop hits from the last 50 years of American music including things like Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Pink Cadillac. They did believable covers of artists as diverse as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Patsy Cline. According to their website, they can do R & B, classic rock and a few country standards with an emphasis on dance music. They like to get people up out of their seats and onto the dance floor.

This four-piece combo includes bassman Marv Slifman, whose clean, accurate runs support the singing melody and lead guitar patterns without overpowering the arrangements with muddy sound. Likewise, lead guitarist Lyn Borden highlights the instrumentation with strong chord progressions and clean lead patterns that balance the stage presence with just enough pizzazz to keep the audience focused on the show. Then there’s the drummer, Bill Chapman, who keeps the beat going with a consistent ability to move the music along without overpowering the other performers.

And finally, a cover band needs a lead vocalist and Terra Rhanes fills that role perfectly. She’s a great soprano with just enough range to wail like Janis Joplin or croon sweetly like Patsy Cline. That’s an impressive ability; when you put it all together, you end up with a band that knows its way around American pop well enough to virtually flood the room with good sound and fill the dance floor with happy feet!

Party of Four definitely deserves your attention if you need a reminder of how good American pop can be. You can also sample some of their recorded music at myspace.com/partyof4band. For booking information, call Borden at 503-720-4270.

If that’s not enough for you, Pyzano’s is also equipped with seven large screens for the sports fans. Additionally, there is video lottery, video games, jukebox, pool table and free wi-fi internet connection.

Whether it’s following a band like Party of Four or just hanging out with your local neighborhood crowd, Pyzano’s will most definitely entertain you, feed you and whet your whistle with its full-service restaurant and bar. You’ll find it waiting for you at 20255 S.W. Tualatin Valley Highway in Aloha, Ore. It’s almost in Beaverton but don’t let that confuse you. Just Google a map and it’ll take you straight there. Say hi to owner Steve Moore, while you’re there, since this is probably the friendliest bar in the style of Cheers that you’ll ever see. Ciao! (See ad and Bandstand this issue.)
