The Spot 79, Inc., a family restaurant/lounge located at 7944 S.E. Foster Road, has an interesting history: It was originally the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nemeier. Mrs. Nemeier cooked for children and people in the community and eventually, it became a local restaurant in the ‘40s. Since early ‘50s, Mr. Nemeier remodeled his home as a family restaurant/lounge, now known as The Spot 79, Inc.
De-aan
After several owners, Terry Weaver took over for the last eight years. A book was written in 2008 about Ed Nemeier, who was on the Bataan March in World War II (1941). The Japanese were brutal; however, he survived. Eventually, he remodeled his home into a restaurant, to what it is today. He provided meat-cutting facilities for restaurants.
The Spot 79 serves liquor, beer, wine and delicious food. Their specialty is prime rib. There are Texas Hold’em poker games Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. (no fee registration at 6 p.m.); six poker machines, four TV screens, two game machines and a spacious dance floor.
Three sections are provided: A "living-room" setting with a TV screen; lounge and restaurant with tables and booths and an area for children from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.; and a bandstand/entertainment area featuring Killer Karaoke Entertainment, owned by De-aan (stage name) and sponsored by Budweiser. De-aan is a role-play theatrical entertainer as a woman dressed in a sexy, classy and sophisticated attire for Karaoke nights, 9 p.m. Thursdays - Saturdays. His costumes and makeup make him look gorgeous. Film movie character costume contests are an occasional event. De-aan was married for ten years and has five children.
Singing for De-aan was initiated at five-years-old. High school was spent working theatrical plays, jazz choirs, a barber shop quartet and as a lighting technician for stage plays. De-ann attended Puget Sound Christian Bible College for three years and excelled as a businessman: He was grocery store assistant manager for five years; dock supervisor for a trucking company; advertising designer; floral and bridal shop keeper and a photography studio owner. In 2007, he received a DBA Award through Small Business Administration for a fast-growing small business.
De-ann’s singing/acting career "creeped" back by accident approximately six years ago. In his first show, he sang Happy Birthday to a customer in the audience. Promotional business calls followed thereafter to continue shows as a character-entertainer similar to Flip Wilson personality style.
De-ann is an independent contractor working a minimum of six-month engagements with companies in Oregon. Entertainers in past shows include Ron Benner, Tony Bennett impersonator; Rico, comedian; fire dancers (Pegatron, Hioka & Jess); comedy acts, dancing and musicians.
The Spot 79 events include Karaoke Thursdays - Saturdays 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with Killer Karaoke Entertainment (De-ann), including fog mist and colorful lighting show with a crystal ball chandelier. "Family Show" Karaoke night is Sunday, 5 - 9 p.m. when children are invited to participate. There are specific seating places for children away from the poker machines and lounge.
Watch for a variety show “Have a Heart for Hunger" Feb. 11 - 14. This show is to assist the Oregon Food Bank. The show will be on Feb. 13. Feb. 11-14, customers are asked to donate for the cause of the Oregon Food Bank.
The Spot 79 family restaurant/lounge has maintained the history of the building as a "Family Restaurant/Lounge." That's why they gladly love children because that was the origination of the building; serving children.
