With a shiny new dance floor, and updated bar area and pool room, Jay's Bar in Orchards, Wash., has done considerable work in upgrading the look and atmosphere of their establishment. Along with the bar itself, they have completely upgraded their Karaoke suite with a new professional sound and stage lighting system.

Jay's is located just off of SR-500 at the intersection of Gehr Road in Orchards (just on the edge of N.E. Vancouver). Jay's is a neighborhood watering hole with a separate billiards section with three pool tables, dart boards, electronic games and continuous sports programming.

A fully stocked bar and bar menu with prompt and efficient service are available. The Karaoke area is freshly remodeled with a roomy new dance floor, stage and DJ area. Jay's has Karaoke on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday nights. There are actually two Jay's establishments, the one on in Washington and their newest at 11595 S.E. 82nd Ave. in Clackamas. Happy hour specials are provided seven days a week, as well as late night snacks.

Host of Karaoke at Jay's is DJ Scott Clegg. He uses the house Karaoke system featuring JBL mains (speakers), a computer-based system with a multiple 1000-song library. He's been a KJ for about two-and-a-half years and six months at Jay's. As a vocalist himself, he is a student of blues and swing music and you can hear him singing various blues classics at Jay's. Besides Karaoke, Clegg plays a mix of everything from swing to pop, top-40 and modern R&B. He says that he developed an affinity for the blues at a young age listening to music his parents frequently played around the house.

Clegg’s focus and goal at Jay's are to see to it that everyone there is having a good time. He explains, "Everybody (should be) having a good time, get em' out dancing, try to get them singing. Make them laugh and try to have a good sense of humor, make sure we get the staff involved too-bartenders and cook. New singers can join in and it can be easy to get in on the list. It's easy to change your song at the last minute. We try to make everyone sound good by changing the music level, voice, echo, treble, bass, whatever they need. We try to satisfy the customer. It's my job to be an MC, keep everyone laughing and happy.” You can see more of DJ Scott Clegg at his website, www.myspace.com/djclegg
