Insensitives anything but
Band
rocks NCP with powerful rhythms
Southeast Portland’s Lents district is once again rockin’ and groovin’ with the New Copper Penny open under new ownership and management. Featuring one of Portland’s largest lounges and dance floors, the New Copper Penny has arguably the best house lighting and sound systems in the metro area. The New Copper Penny (NCP) calls itself Portland's new hottest dance club and with good reason: Scorching hot music seven nights a week.

Wednesday is ladies night where all ladies get in free. It also features some great specials. Next up is THIRSTdays, a weekly warmup party to get you ready for the weekend with Portland’s favorite Z100 DJ Felix. Expect an evening full of fun games, cash prizes and more great specials. Fridays feature three DJs, spinning top 40 hits all night long... ladies are admitted free before 11 p.m.
Don’t forget Risque Saturdays, where once again the ladies get in free before 11 p.m. Sunday is Salsa Night with Karaoke featuring all the hot Latino songs. And you really need to check out the action on Tuesday Jam Nights. An evening is filled with great specials and live music just begging you to bring your instrument and join the jam with the New Copper Penny house band, The Insensitives!
The Insensitives are anchored by founder and lead guitarist, Chris Pain. With longtime friend and keyboard player Andy Madsen on the keyboards, David Nelson shares guitar duties with drummer Rich Lance and Toby Worthington on bass. With the exception of drummer Lance, all perform both lead and backup vocals. Pain and Madsen go back over 20 years with the two as part of legendary Portland group Power Lock with Madsen also currently a member of The Rolling Tones. Lance also plays drums for the Fat Bottom Girls. Worthington was a founder and lead vocalist in The Fabulous Bad Cats.
The group’s credentials are too extensive to fully list here, but all you need to know is they work well together and play a wide variety of rock classics to heat up the dance floor. Pounding out songs from ZZ Top, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foreigner, John Mellencamp and dozens more, The Insensitives provide a constant flow of rock energy that keeps people glued to the dance floor. Hard hitting metal with a thick wall of sound - Pain compares favorably to Avenged Sevenfold. It’s a rock solid five-piece band with a red-hot two-guitar attack; powerful rhythms with a Linkin Park edge. It’s a lot of energy exploding on stage and heating up the winter here in River City.
The group maintains a full schedule including the weekly Tuesday night jam at the New Copper Penny at the intersection S.E. 92nd and Foster Road, as well as a similar event at Pastimes Sports Bar in Fairview, at 22535 N.E. Halsey St. These jams are often led by members of The Insensitives, but have also included stints by many of Portland’s top rock performers like Danny Hay Davis, Gary Fountaine and numerous other area icons.
One of the featured events on The Insensitives calendar is an appearance as the featured act at the ABATE Anniversary Bash at the M & M Lounge, Downtown Gresham, on Friday and Saturday, March 12 - 13. For The Insensitives’ full schedule, see Bandstand, here and online at PositivelyEntertainment.com. For additional info on the band, check out their site at MySpace.com/TheInsensitives.
