In Woodburn EndZone features sports, Karaoke, best food

By Ardis Hedrick

On one of the last perfect days of the waning season, this writer and a guest stopped by The EndZone Sports Bar and Grill, located at 980 N. Pacific Highway (Hwy 99E), in Woodburn, Ore., electing to sit on the outdoor patio and catch some of summer's last rays during lunch.

The EndZone bills itself as "Woodburn's premier sports bar and place to meet." With its many offerings and convenient location, it's a destination ready to fulfill its customer's variety of needs. They also feature Karaoke Wednesday through Saturday.

While sports entertainment and other recreational activities are featured heavily, the food is clearly the star player at this venue. The menu is extensive and has something for every appetite. This writer opted for the French dip with fries and added a tossed green salad and my guest chose a patty melt, served on a nice, marbled rye bread with Swiss cheese, toasted to perfection. Everything was prepared fresh and served quickly with a smile, by the young waiter.

The EndZone is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving a broad menu at reasonable prices. Appetizers are available with special prices during happy hour, Monday-Friday, 4-7 p.m. There's a south-of-the-border focus, featuring a nacho supreme, a deluxe quesadilla and a grand soft-shell taco. Macaroni and cheese, made with cream, cheddar and pepper jack cheeses, topped with bacon and an onion ring, will appeal to those seeking comfort food when their team loses. Beer-battered prawns and barbeque mini spare ribs also sound good.

The EndZone serves a homemade soup of the day; soup and salad is just $5. Those with big appetites might choose the homemade, thick and hearty chili with onions, cheddar and pepper jack cheeses, when the cool fall weather arrives. An array of salads and both hot and cold sandwiches populate the menu, all for under $10. A selection of nine 1/3 pound burgers and seafood baskets come with a nice choice of sides: tots, fries, soup, salad, coleslaw or potato salad. It might be hard to choose.

The EndZone Sports Bar and Grill serves dinner until 10 p.m. The menu includes steaks, chicken and seafood, most for less than $12, nothing over $20 and served with a great selection of side dishes. That's a fair value in this day and age, to be sure.

A breakfast menu is offered Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can create your own omelet, have the pancakes or biscuits with country gravy and, if you are feeling adventurous, try the cornflake-breaded French toast.

Daily drink specials, EZ Signature drinks and breakfast deals abound at the EndZone. Look for the brightly colored, laminated tablemats for the full monthly calendar of specials. The EndZone offers a large selection of beers and other bottled beverages, such as malt liquors and wines from the Pacific Northwest, as well.

Of course, this is a sports bar and you will find the EndZone to be, as billed, "Woodburn's Premier Football and Sports Headquarters." Watch your favorite sports on the EndZone's 13 TVs (some wide screen), including college games and special NFL Sunday and NBA packages. The EndZone Sports Bar and Grill also hosts darts and Texas Hold ‘em tournaments and has a pool table for your enjoyment.

Besides Karaoke Wednesday through Saturday nights, you will also find video poker and all Oregon Lottery games. Consider booking or visiting The EndZone for your special events and holidays, including birthdays, anniversaries, Halloween, New Year's Eve, Super Bowl, Cinco de Mayo and more.
