National recording artist Matt Maher slated for free concert at St. Joseph's
By Bonnie Carter
Nationally-acclaimed Christian singer Matt Maher will bring his band to St. Joseph the Worker Church for a free concert Sept 21, 4 p.m.
Be sure to mark the date on your calendar today for the church's 50+ year birthday with an all-day free outdoor party open to the public.
Maher recently released his latest CD Empty & Beautiful, an inspirational, dynamic production, now #1 on The Christian charts. This writer's favorites include Your Grace is Enough, As It Is in Heaven, I Rejoice and Leave a Light On. Maher is extremely talented as a performer, as well as a songwriter and gives total credit for his gifts to God. You can certainly hear the Holy Spirit's influence throughout this recording. Maher performed at the World Youth Conference '08 in Australia and St. Joseph the Worker was represented by Pastor John Amsberry and the church youth group.
Although the concert is free, please bring a canned food donation for the St. Vincent de Paul Center.
An outdoor Mass will begin the day at 9 a.m. celebrated by Archbishop Vlazny and Pastor John Amsberry, among other former priests of St. Joseph's.
An all-day historical exhibit will be displayed in the church social room; food will be available from vendors Typhoon!, Bellagio's, Campbells and Ozzies Gyros; activities for kids include a kiddie carnival, face painting and prayer balloons; a talent show is also scheduled.
The event will culminate with the Matt Maher concert at 4 p.m. Be sure to arrive early as seating is limited.
St. Joseph the Worker Parish is located at 2310 S.E. 148th & Division. For information, check church website at: www.stjosephtheworkerpdx.org
