Smeads, an out-of-the ordinary club
Family updates, builds business from 1933

It was a pleasure to visit Smeads Pub in Washougal, Wash., recently. From the road, this looks like your regular neighborhood public house, but as soon as you see the mural on the east wall of the building, you know that you are about to experience something out of the ordinary.
Built to withstand heavy weather from the Columbia River Gorge, Smeads is easy to find at 3395 Evergreen Way, just off Highway 14 in Washougal, Wash., with lots of parking.
Owners Dave and Kimber Eckmon and their family have put hours of hard work, thought and a lot of care into making Smeads a friendly, comfortable home-away-from-home. They listen to their customers and work to meet their needs providing events, entertainment and updating the menu. Several women expressed how comfortable they feel in Smeads, and that's saying a LOT nowadays!
There has been a Smeads in Washougal since 1933, as artwork on the dance floor will attest. Over the years, it's been a gas station, tavern and restaurant.
Months of extensive remodeling produced a 20-foot bar with an incredible redwood design Corian top, refinished original hardwood floor, fresh paint, historical photos on the walls, comfortable new furnishings, and original artwork. With the outdoor mural by local artist, Hat, Smeads is ready for you to come in and party.
There are lots of choices for things to do. Monday is sports night; Tworivers acoustic jam on Wednesdays; Karaoke and Ladies Night on Thursdays (along with chili dogs featuring mom’s home-made chili); live music on Friday and Saturday; a pool table is available and special events as announced.
Food and drink, always important for a good time, take high points at Smeads. There is a full bar with Guinness and the usual suspects on tap. The menu is extensive with tasty, freshly-made, crispy fries, sandwiches, salads, mom-made soups and chili. Without any doubt, the blue cheese burger is the best this writer has ever had the pleasure of eating.
The friendly, efficient staff, clean, comfortable atmosphere, great food and lively entertainment make Smeads a historic neighborhood spot that is well worth the short drive from I-205. Dave and Kimber, family and friends will make you welcome. (See ad and Music on Tap for music schedule and more.)
