Notes On A Napkin
What an adventure the last few weeks brought! As most folks in this region struggled with the inclement weather, I was no exception. I barely left my warm, cozy house to even venture walking, let alone driving! To my friend Harry, who shoveled snow, installed tire chains & drove us around when we absolutely needed something, I am eternally grateful. Thanks also to Harry & PE staffer Kurt Johnson, who covered a couple of extra delivery routes last issue, when other distributors couldn't make it out. Unlike the mail, Positively Entertainment & Dining did get delivered through sleet, snow & ice!
My girlfriend Mary traveled from Lebanon (in the Middle East) just before the big storm, but had a hard time getting to Seaside to visit her family. She stayed with me a few days before finally taking the bus on Christmas Eve. A harrowing trip ensued that included blizzard conditions & a fallen tree right in front of the bus! Through the grace of God, someone stopped with a chainsaw & removed it; then the bus got stuck in the snow, but somehow, with help, it finally arrived safely after four hours! That bus driver should get a gold medal.
Thank Goodness, the weather cooperated for New Year's Eve festivities around the city. Friends Carrie, Steve & Harry joined me at the Norse Hall for a wonderful celebration that included the fabulous music of the Johnny Martin Band. My cousin Mary Ann was in charge of providing the recorded music during breaks. Many of her ballroom dance students were on hand to take part in the festivities. It was such fun to watch the marvelous dancers twirl around the dance floor in their festive outfits, including Mary Ann, who swept across the beautiful hardwood floor with her fiance Jim. Our party managed to swing to a few tunes ourselves.
Be sure to check all the Superbowl & Valentines parties this issue!
