For those who may not know where it is located, Spot 79 can be found at 79th at S.E. Foster Road. It was established in the ‘50s as a well known steak house with country music and the new craze called rock ‘n’ roll.

While researching this article, the old timers said it was the Southeast Portland hot spot. They were famous for their steaks and service, by two identical twin blondes. Two blondes and steaks, that will whet any man’s appetite!

Today, the Spot 79 is owned by Jin Zhen, Kevin Woo and assisted by Dad. They are keeping the Spot tradition of great food. Zhen has expanded the menu.

First hand experience one recent Saturday night was an enjoyable dinner with friends; including Bonnie Carter, owner and editor of Positively Entertainment and Dining, PE&D staff writer Ed Jordan, staff writer and local musician Vivian Howard and yours truly, George Dant, article writer. It was a great dinner of the biggest and most tender razor clams and prime rib. The Bloody Marys also were the best in town. It was a great time enjoying the large portions and great service by the staff of Spot 79 bartender Michelle and server David.

After the meal, the Saturday night entertainment was Karaoke hosted by Mickey and Susie. Susie, a veteran of Karaoke, has a huge selection of music sent through mobile hand held microphone, expertly mixed and delivered from a JBL audio system. No joking, she can make a hound dog sound like Sinatra. For those of you who are Karaoke fans, this is a must place to go on Saturdays. You won’t be disappointed.

Friday, March 29, yours truly celebrated his birthday with live music featuring Wood Works, who played from 8 to 12: This was the start of “Live Every Friday” night musical bands. Wood Works, Party of Four, Kenny Lee and the Sundowners and the gifted sound of Taska are the first to take the stage on “Friday Night Live” at the Spot 79. (see Music On Tap for schedule.)

Visit the Spot 79 soon for delicious food, live music or Karaoke.
