Brothers of the Baladi host dance workshops & concert performances

Brothers of the Baladi are pleased to announce Mosaic, a day of music and dance workshops and an evening concert focusing on the appreciation of Middle Eastern music, Sept. 25, 1 p.m., at the Community Music Center, 3350 S.E. Francis St., Portland (503-823-3177).

The day will begin with afternoon workshops by Michael Beach, Ishmael, Bobak Selehi and Amel Tafsout. There will be a panel discussion, a Middle Eastern style souk (market) with food from Hoda’s Middle Eastern Cuisine and a wide variety of CDs provided by Music Millennium. Afternoon showcase performances by local groups are scheduled, including Arabesque, David Rheihs and Friends, Negara and The Rhythm Keepers.

The award winning film, Belly, by Cecilia and Chad Rinn will also be shown.

The evening will conclude with a concert by Portland’s own Middle Eastern/World Music ensemble, Brothers of the Baladi, featuring dance performance by Jane Archer. A special “talk back” session will follow, allowing attendees the opportunity to talk to the performers, give feedback and learn more about the music and dance presented throughout the event.
