Myron LeRoy CD release party – Aladdin show draws enthusiastic audience response

by Lucy Hammond

" I have the best friends in the world!" Myron LeRoy stated emphatically, after his CD release party at The Aladdin Theater, Aug. 12. "Without the support and help from my friends, there's no way this show would have happened!" To that, this writer would add, LeRoy's selfless gift of friendship has garnered the loyal support of his friends with good reason. It’s a quality that is often rare in the highly competitive music business.

Sneakin' Out opened the show with their usual stellar showmanship, equaled only by their amazing musicianship. The crowd was engaged and enthralled from beginning to end. It was this writer's first encounter with their live show, and it is not to be missed. They are an unstoppable force of nature. They flow effortlessly in and out of familiar selections from the Beatles and Pink Floyd to Hava Nagila, all performed with their expert, unique style.

As LeRoy prepared to take the stage, Joseph Konty, noted guitarist, singer and songwriter, served as his guitar tech. Another dear friend and tireless support, Chris Stone, wore the hat of stage manager, and event producer, handling a myriad of details, freeing LeRoy to focus on the show.

LeRoy opened the show with vocalist Josie Leroy, ending her segment with his composition Oregon Child, a song he had the privilege of performing personally for Governor Tom McCall. Their voices blended beautifully on these folk-oriented numbers. The remainder of the show featured LeRoy's band: Dan Seymour on bass; Randy Sage on drums; "Little" Henry Smith on keys; and Frank Szubart on rhythm guitar. Selected numbers from the CD Nice Rack featured guest artists David Holmes on steel drums, Wes Tjernland on saxophone and this writer Lucy Hammond on backing vocals.

At different points, LeRoy brought out his beautifully curvaceous "Roadie", Jessica Pearcy, wearing her Nice Rack T-shirt, shorts and red heels, to occasionally mop his brow, change hats and bring him water. Now that his CD is out, LeRoy emphasized how he had earned the right to have his own personal "Roadie." She executed her duties flawlessly and was a great addition to an already entertaining show.

Throughout the show, it was evident how much the audience enjoyed LeRoy's music. He is a formidable songwriter and will no doubt achieve a great response for his compositions. "Having my friends there to celebrate two milestones with me, my CD release and my birthday was the best gift I could ever receive" said LeRoy. Audience members were the recipients of the gift of LeRoy's warm, soulful songs, and the outstanding experience of friends enjoying each other!
