Candlelight Lounge – KJ Gemini features Karaoke contests, fine vocals

By Yamile DeGruy

The Candlelight Restaurant and Lounge, 7334 N.E. Glisan, is owned by two hard-working people, husband and wife, John and Ming Huang. They have owned the Candlelight for six years. They must have had quality business education as their place of business is orderly, very well-maintained with a security system, excellent professional employees who always pay attention to customers.

The Candlelight is very clean and comfortable with excellent quality Chinese and American food such as burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, chicken strips and fries, onion rings, soup, chili, salads and breakfast specials that include omelets, chicken fried steak, veggie scramble, steak and eggs, hashed browns with eggs, choice of bacon, ham or sausage and toast. Prices are very reasonable. If you are in need of breakfast, lunch or dinner seven days a week, happy hour is seven days a week: 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

KJ Gemini has contracted with the Candlelight Restaurant and Lounge for five years, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. A portion of her past employment is as a customer service representative. She loves working with the public, assuring them of satisfaction at the business site. Technical KJ training was accomplished at Capital City Entertainment, LLC, based in Salem, Ore. Gemini has KJ’d in the business for more than seven years. Her singing is quality. She sang in the choir from kindergarten through high school and grew up singing (a cappella) in the church with her mother and sister.

After dinner, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., ease your tensions by enjoying and/or singing Karaoke with Gemini. The last Thursday of the month, she features a Karaoke contest. You might win a $10 gift certificate to use at the establishment: Entry fee is only $1 for the contest and you also win that pot of money.

This KJ loves to keep the “nine-to-five” and the average “Joe and Jocelyn” able to release pressure and tension from their everyday work. Gemini is classy and says she is very happy at the Candlelight enjoying interacting with customers, making sure they have a good time. There are two Karaoke screens and her computerized system allows quick musical selections for customers in a matter of seconds, with comfortable keys fitting the voice ranges of singers. The rotation system is appealing to vocalists as Gemini puts it; “It's an equal opportunity Karaoke with a wonderful rotation system honoring new singers. No waiting forever.” She initiated the Karaoke contest for a positive addition to draw customers, providing more fun for customers.

In the spacious lounge are: two pool tables, six video machines, a juke box, four big televisions, seating at the bar, five comfortable booths for dining with shaded overhead lamps and ceiling fans, 11 tables for customer seating, Keno screens. There are even historical framed photos and information about this neighborhood in the early 1900s and photos of customers. Patrons seem to enjoy the atmosphere and have ventured here for years.

In the restaurant, it is very peaceful, warm and comfortable with radio music played via quality speakers, historical framed photos and information of the neighborhood in the early 1900s posted on the walls. Seating is in booths or tables that can be joined for a large quantity of customers and highchairs for children. Restrooms are very clean and well maintained. Even though the restaurant is on the main street, you cannot hear the traffic at all.

If you're a “bus rider unlimited,” the #19 Glisan Tri-Met bus stop is very close to the Candlelight.

Visit the Candlelight Restaurant and Lounge Thursdays through Saturdays. KJ Gemini keeps “the ball rollin'” with no delays and all enjoy her singing, customer service and quick rotation, enabling consistent fun throughout the night. Join her for Karaoke. You'll be glad you did.
