Winter Blues Music Festival highlights rich musical culture of American blues
Winter Blues Music Festival is an event that’s going to help you kick out your wintry blues. It’s the first year the festival will be indoors and will focus on blues music. The venue for this festival is located at 9256 S.E. 67th Ave. Dates for the 21-and over weekend event are Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 19. There’ll be food and drinks, a “meet the musicians” autograph signing table and lots more.
This festival will expose audiences to the rich musical culture of American blues, a tradition of people singing about tough times and personal hardships. The music has the power to bring a person out of the glum brought on by the rainy winter days of the Northwest.
The Winter Blues Festival currently has 13 bands set to play for this two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19, and more are to be booked. Bands and musicians from the Pacific NW to Mississippi will attend. Proceeds will
benefit the Oregon Food Bank, to help fill up their canned good pantry, and a raffle drawing will help raise money for the Children’s Healing Art Project (CHAP), which brings the healing power of art to children in crisis.
Performers currently booked include Lisa Mann and Her Really Good Band; Knuckleheads with a special guest; Grady Champion, The 2010 International Blues Challenge winner, accompanied by one of the best young blues bands in America; Rae Gordon; Franco Paletta and the Stingers, as well as other regional acts from around the Northwest.
Spanning the length of the event will be a culinary bazaar of many comfort foods as chef Earle Welch will present an array of delicious foods guaranteed to bring a smile to attendees’ faces. Beer and wine will be available, along with non-alcohol beverages. This event will be for guests 21 and over. Festival organizers are searching for additional sponsors. If you’re interested in the opportunities supporting this event, please sign up or call (503-254-6420.).
