Peace, love and positivity. These three words describe the idealistic inspiration that is the cornerstone of Portland duet Skyhouse. Bequest with a unique sound and a vision of positivity, Skyhouse has created something truly special and would love to share their music with the people of Portland and spread their welcome message of peace.
Skyhouse is comprised of songwriters/ multi-instrumentalists Harris Levon McRae and Betsy Pott. This duet performs on all of the instruments in their recordings and performs live as an acoustic duo. For an electric performance, the duo is backed by JAH, the pet name for their laptop computer that contains all of their pre-recorded backing tracks. The duo can be heard at Skyhousemusic.com, where their latest offering Dead Man Walking can be previewed in its entirety and purchased at cdbaby.com.
The sound of Skyhouse is unique, not only because of the different instruments used to record, but also due to McRae and Potts’ wide array of musical influences. Skyhouse has coined their sound as “freggae” and can be described as a culmination of folk, reggae, rock, electronica, hip hop, R&B, blues and pop music. A multitude of instruments are used to achieve the sound of Skyhouse. Guitar and bass are prominent, as well as piano and, of course, drums and percussion. Unlikely instruments such as banjo and harmonica can be heard on Skyhouse recordings as well.
Skyhouse won Best Pop/Rock Song for Mary Wanna at the Marijuana Music Awards. Another favorite from the Dead Man Walking album is The New Romeo, whose video was honored in the Short Film category by Perceptions Magazine of the Arts.
Skyhouse also hosts an Arts and Entertainment Community Media TV show called Atomic Peace Café. This show is affectionately known as “The best of bad TV” on Channels 11 and 22. Also, past episodes can be viewed on Youtube. Skyhouse is available for booking and looks forward to making your special event very special indeed.
