The Oral Hull Park is a little known oasis, just on the outskirts of Sandy, Ore. on 22 beautiful acres, with lots of great amenities, such as a fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, riding arena, Gardens of Enchantment, recreation hall and dormitory. The little known fact is this park is open to the public, not just the blind, for rentals, weddings, family reunions or whatever your needs may be. Trailers are onsite to rent, a dormitory is available as well as camping tent area. Other accommodations are a full professional kitchen in the main hall; also a large BBQ pit large enough to cook several pigs or 100s of burgers. So, come and check out this great place for your next function.
The foundation’s 50 Year Celebration and Fun Day to honor their volunteers is set for Sunday, Aug. 26 at the park. Music starts at noon with Radiophlyer opening the day’s events. Other bands scheduled to perform throughout the day include The Vermen, Frank Murray with pdx, She’s Not Dead, Blue Light, Cheap Sunglasses and Common Ground. An open jam will wrap up the musical entertainment.
The Foundation will be selling raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing. There will be an early drawing at 3 p.m. and an evening drawing at 8 p.m. Several prizes will be up for grabs, such as a night at the Holiday Inn with a $25.00 gift card.
For the kids there will be carnival games, clowns and ponies, face painting, bounce houses, swimming, cake walks and many other attractions. Several different vendors have been booked to serve the crowd’s jewelry, clothing, fine art works, informational booths and even iced coffee.
The Lions chicken BBQ is one of the most anticipated yearly activities, bringing new friends together with regular visitors to Oral Hull Park. It is a day of family fun and fundraising to help support the work of the mission to carry on the legacy that is Oral Hull Foundation for the Blind.
Since 1962, The Oral Hull Foundation for the Blind has been dedicated to providing a special place for persons with blindness or low vision and their families and friends. It’s a place for them to get away for a day, week or weekend for an exceptional experience. “At Oral Hull Park we provide year-round recreational, social and educational opportunities for the blind and low vision community. This is our mission.” For 50 years, the foundation has been funded by generous gifts and donations, receiving no federal funds.
For information about a booth for the event, please call the number listed below noon to 4 p.m. Lions chicken BBQ is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Musical entertainment is from noon-9p.m. with your favorite bands. Beer garden is 5 to 9 p.m.
