All human beings have the right to live a healthy, pain-free, non-toxic life. Local musician Nico Wind Cordova’s dream is that all people will be able to obtain quality, affordable medical treatment and guidance, regardless of their vocation or insurance eligibility.
Musicians make huge contributions to this community and universe. It’s an unjust fact that there are no affordable insurance protection plans available to musicians or their families; and even if there were, based on the meager income offered in our soft over-saturated, market, a full or part-time artist can barely pay expenses to do the gig, much less pay for anything else. In the event anything catastrophic should happen to them in the course of their lives, these musicians inevitably are dependent on the system to take care of them.
The group Nico Wind & Free Rein is dedicated to seeking ways to address some of these issues for the local musician community. Cordova is asking, “all of our musician friends to join hands with us, to speak out, share ideas, and support us in finding some solutions.”
Nico Wind & Free Rein, a new Portland band, is launching March 9, 2012, at the Candlelight Café in a "Glad We’re Alive" party to celebrate the lives of all the musician folks who have survived catastrophic medical issues and/or are still in need of assistance. Stop in between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. on March 9 and play or sing a song or even “just be with us” to show your support.
Since The Candlelight is closing its doors for good at the end of March, “we are honored to be debuting our newly-formed band and this very important project there, in one of the last remaining no-cover-charge Portland venues” says Cordova. See you there!
