New DotCom Bar opens w/Norman Sylvester, live music Fridays
Known as a "blue-collar" bar and a favorite of the longshoremen and other shipyard workers in the area, the DotCom Bar plans to continue in that tradition, with their own twist.
They've added live music to the mix on Fridays, and occasionally, DJs. Along with that, DotCom has plasma screen TVs for your favorite sports events, free pool and a jukebox. Lottery games will also soon be available. They boast easy access from the freeways, ample free parking, friendly atmosphere, and good food and drink at reasonable prices. Located north of the Pearl district on Front Ave., it's a short trip from the downtown core.
During their grand opening, Friday, Jan. 27,this writer had the pleasure of seeing one of Portland's most venerable artists, Norman Sylvester and his world-class band. As usual, Sylvester had the crowd on their feet dancin' and partyin' the whole night through. On breaks, they featured a live DJ, playing primarily African/reggae/world beat music.
Recently inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame, Sylvester is truly one of Portland's musical treasures and a man dedicated to his community. Look for his new CD due out soon! Currently two original singles from the upcoming release, Honey Do List, and Please Lie To Me are now available on CDBaby, iTunes, at live shows and Music Millennium.
Due to patron demand, once a month, owner Saba features her native Ethiopian cuisine. So many folks kept requesting it, she decided to make it a regular menu item feature towards the end of each month.
