From the outside, Big Daddy’s OT, 10514 N.E. 4th Plain, in Vancouver, Wash., looks small and plain. But looks are definitely deceiving. Inside, there are two dartboards, two pool tables and a full-size shuffleboard. That’s not to mention a stage and a sizeable dance floor, yet still plenty of room. It’s a fantastic venue with all the space a party of any size would need to be comfortable. When this reporter stepped outside, a nicely decorated deck and covered “drink friendly” area was provided. What gave a little chicken skin was “Happy Hour 24/7 for Veterans.” When asked why, Randy Montoya, owner for the last three years, answers, “We love our Vets and we can relate.”
Tuesday through Thursday, you can catch Karaoke host Hollie Olson. Olson has performed music for over two decades on keyboard and vocals and hosted Karaoke for the last four years. Olson has worked at Big Daddy’s OT for a year-and-a-half. When asked about her favorite part of Big Daddy’s OT was, she says, “The relaxed crowd.”
With the diversity in the age groups, all feel welcome. Liz was on duty as bartender; she says her favorite night of the week is Tuesdays. When asked why, she says with a smile and a nod, “The regulars, they make my week.” Favorite foods of Liz and bar back-up Ashley are ‘the new baked potato” and “the cheeseburger.” With the great food, servers and drink selection, it can’t be beat. Big Daddy’s OT is a great spot to be on any night of the week. Visit them online at: http://www.bigdaddysot.com/.
Friday was awesome! Blue Light Band was in action. A band that has played for over 20 years rocked that house. With the talents of Ron Ruiz (guitar, vocals); Scott Olson (guitar, keyboard, flute, harmonica, vocals); Click Moore (bass guitar, vocals); and Erik Smith (drums, vocals), their sound is crisp and the four-part harmony’s just jaw dropping.
It is a full show, with covers ranging from David Allen Coe, to Rollin’ on the River, by Credence Clearwater. They had the dance floor movin’. By the fourth song, it was a party. You Look Wonderful Tonight, by Eric Clapton, had the floor packed. Their cover of that classic had couples lookin’ at each other with loving eyes. Their tempo was right on and the breaks during ZZ Top were so hot.
If you want good music, a great time and just feel like dancing, follow Blue Light Band online and at Big Daddy’s OT on Feb.10-11 and March 30-31. They also perform at Jollie’s, Feb. 24-25 at 17701 N.E. Union Rd., Ridgefield, Wash. Find them online at: http://www.bluelightband.org/
