56th Anniversary - Roadster Show promises exciting array of custom vehicles

Custom car aficionados, please start your engines! The 2012 Roadster Show is barreling into town and ready to pack three Expo Center Buildings (Halls C, D and E) with the world’s greatest rides. This year’s Roadster Show marks the 56th Anniversary of this venerable event with a move to its new home. It’s going to take that much space to present more than 300 of the hottest rods, custom built vehicles, bikes, trucks and more.
This exposition is scheduled for Friday, March 16 through Sunday, March 18. The hours are: Friday, 12 p.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The Expo Center’s address is 2060 N. Marine Drive, conveniently located along Interstate 5, between downtown Portland and Vancouver, Wash., and is served directly by TriMet’s MAX light rail Yellow Line. Google it! Price of general admission is $15, with children 12 and under free. Advanced tickets are available at Tickets West and Baxter Auto Stores for $13.
What you get for your admission fee is plenty! A huge model car show and a contest—a mind-blowing detail and creativity oriented display. It’s a car show within a car show! If you want to meet the Hall of Fame Legends of Kustoms, George Barris, Gene Winfield, Darryl Starbird and John D’Agostino will all make appearances. Tom Daniel’s Road Agent (built by Big Daddy Ed Roth) and the Disney/Pixar “Tow Mater,” built by Jack Walkley of Everett, Wash., will be on hand. Anyone will be able to have their photo taken with “Mater” for $10; proceeds will go to the Rusty Wrecker Foundation. A Paint Slinger’s Shootout, featuring painting and pinstriping by the best in the business and an Aftermarket Vendor Expo with the hottest products and the latest from both local and national vendors are among the many additional displays planned.
Space prevents including lot of details here, so you might want to visit the website for more in-depth information (http://www.portlandroadstershow.com/). A quote from their site regarding the history of this prestigious event reads, “The "Portland Roadster Show" represents an artistic effort wherein skilled craftsmen use the same principles of vision and achievement to produce the absolute finest renditions of automotive art to be displayed for your entertainment anywhere. All of the outstanding cars, trucks, motorcycles, vintage automobilia and model car expositions reflect an effort to integrate beauty and design with function.
