Pointe South Mt. Resort

By Patrice Raplee

Summer has just about slipped by and the emergence of fall is starting to tinge the foliage, as Pacific Northwesterners head into the gray days to come.

To help manage the relentless rain and ennui of winter, plan a few days escape to warm and sunny Phoenix. From fall to spring, Phoenix, Arizona's climate is ideal for outdoor activities. A perfect location for an inclusive respite is the Pointe South Mountain Park Resort. Located on 300 acres at the base of South Mountain Park in Phoenix and a convenient six miles from Sky Harbor International Airport, the Pointe offers an affordable getaway. Imagine taking a stroll across a sky bridge on your way to a warm evening swim. A tranquil moon illuminates gently swaying palm trees and lush botanical garden paths, ringed with fountains and ponds on the grounds below.

The unobstructed view of the surrounding stunning resort suites contains landscape marvels hidden around every corner. The spontaneous desire to explore and discover the architecturally fashioned Spanish Mediterranean edifices and desert scenery are among the many compelling experiences that await the curious traveler.

This beautiful oasis is a complete destination resort with 640 suites, six swimming pools (including a lap pool), a championship golf course, full-service spa, whirlpools, fitness facilities, tennis courts, six dining establishments, mountain hiking and a long list of other sports activities, relaxation alternatives and amenities.

The newest addition to the resort's grounds is an amazing water park that will be open in the spring of 2002.

The Pointe is geared for families, business travelers or a couple seeking a romantic interlude. The resort has just gone through an eight million dollar redesign of all its suites. The look and feel is fabulous! It includes feather-top mattresses, leather headboard and arm chairs, lovely marble-top counters and vanities, etc. The guest suites are exceptional in the quality of their décor and distinctive in their harmonious design.

There are several resorts in Phoenix, but what makes the Pointe so incomparable is the staff. You won't find any weakness in the chain with this top-notch group that is genuinely friendly, professional and able to handle any problem small or large. Jessi Hoogesteger, head concierge, is gracious and knowledgeable. Well-versed in all of the resort's activities, programs and dining facilities, Hoogesteger will help you set up a round of golf or assist you in making an appointment for a heavenly Swedish massage with a rejuvenating Salt Glow at the complete and luxurious spa facilities.

If shopping is a necessity, the hotel shuttle provides transportation to the enormous Arizona Mills shopping mall less than a mile away.

The Pointe South Mountain resort is truly a destination paradise and a perfect solution for the winter blues! There are many different getaway packages available thoughout the year; a quick call to the resort will provide you with numerous options.
