Adora Flora

by Franklin

You don't need to be a large person to have a big persona. Adora Flora is evidence of that. To all who have experienced her pleasant way and equally pleasant voice, Flora is all you could ask for in a Karaoke hostess. She is multi-faceted and uses her pleasing voice on selections from Herman's Hermits to Aretha Franklin and everything in between.

Flora is in fine voice and holds her notes, as they say in the Three Bears fairytale, "just right." Soft when she needs to be, Flora can summon that edgy tone when it is needed. Even her stage volume is welcoming. Conversation is not sacrificed for the thumping of rock partying. But make no mistake, the party is what Adora Flora is all about, currently performing at The China Hut. She works the partiers into a veritable conga line on songs like Frankie Valli's Sherri Baby. And the girl can dance, herself. Her influences appear to be a hint of salsa, Hawaiian and more, yet all her own.

Flora inspires the kind of light-hearted dancing that makes the worries of the day seem so far away. Because to Flora, it's not all about her. All singers are genuinely welcomed and clapping is a required spectator sport with Flora here at the China Hut. Folks like Bobby, a kindly gent who favors Ernest Tubbs and Hank Sr., to the passionate, fairly strong singers who keep ‘80s rock alive, all get the same treatment. It's a comfortable gathering where this Queen holds court.

Richard walks here daily, taking the “no drinking and driving” rule seriously. Like many, he says he comes "to see Flora." Rachel is the bartender. A friendly, observant type, she and the rest of the staff are on the ready to help happy diners and partiers with whatever they need in this well-lit establishment.

The appetizers are another inducement. A sampler is just $4.95 and individual servings are $2.95 for BBQ pork or crab puffs. You can get egg rolls for pocket change here at the China Hut. Maybe that is why it seems folks here are all regulars. But then maybe it's because Flora treats this like it is the only thing that matters. She would probably have the same approach to any undertaking or gig. She is just that professional. Get down to 16721 S.E. Division and get in on the party at the China Hut. Holidays are coming. This transplanted Oregonian, by way of the Phillipines, can help you lighten the load of work, bills and Christmas shopping...all through the gift of partying. You're welcome.
