Puget Sound Town & Inn

Travel Excursion
Edmonds Inn Wash.
By Patrice Raplee
Foggy beaches are bathed in salty air and the lulling timbre of ferry
horns echo distantly offshore; striking a harmony with the faint call
of coastal trains winding their way past the rippling water of the
Puget Sound.
Edmonds, Wash., located about 40 minutes north of Seattle, is the locale
for this entrancing depiction. Edmonds is a perfect stop-off for
travelers who
want an overnight respite before heading to Vancouver, B.C., or taking the
local ferry to the Washington Peninsula.
Although misty skies are often the landscape of this charming town,
clear days present a dramatic view of the snow-capped Olympic Mountains
rising above the
Sound. Quaint shops and restaurants abound, as well as a dashingly inviting
Bed and Breakfast, The Edmonds Inn.
The Inn was originally built in the early 1900s and resided on Main
Street. It was then moved in the ‘50s to its current location on Third Avenue.
From Pinkham’s Pillow B&B to a private retreat for women, the Inn
has gone through several incarnations and now rests in the incomparable hands
of April Waddy. Waddy, an affable and focused individual, has taken the helm
of The Edmonds Inn and turned it into a beautiful, well-run B&B.
The Inn is surrounded by trees and garden areas are replete with bistro
furniture for guests to frequent during fair weather. The veranda
off the second floor
landing is flanked by potted herbs and is set with bright patio furniture.
On warm days, guests can avail themselves with breakfast or an afternoon tea.
Upon entering the B&B, visitors are greeted with a comfortable atmosphere
and often the lingering aroma of fresh scones. The main floor of the Inn consists
of the living room, entertainment center (including a playable antique Hamilton
Piano), and dining area for breakfast and afternoon tea. The decor is a pleasing
fusion of fashionable-new and Queen Ann. Classic, but not fussy, business travelers,
as well as couples and families, will find the décor agreeable and
relaxed. The Edmonds Inn has five distinctive suites and all with dedicated
or en suite bathrooms. Each suite is themed after a renowned musician,
photographer,
poet,
writer and beauty mogul, with a book about the notable provided as well.
The suites range from king to queen size beds and are well-appointed with
interesting
art, lovely furniture and tasteful linens. Leaded glass windows and exquisite
antique furniture adorn various rooms throughout the Inn and urge a closer
examination of the architecture and décor. Although the rooms are not
vast in size, Waddy has provided close attention to detail in the creation
of her suites and all are inviting and impeccably clean.
Business travelers will find a surprising high-speed wireless network
installed with a good firewall through the entire Inn and at no extra
charge! In fact,
there are numerous complementary extras everywhere guests turn, including
fragrant homemade soap in every suite.
The B&B is also ideal for family reunions, business events and bridal shower
parties. Special events are presented at the Inn on a regular basis. Art shows
with “meet the artist” and the popular “Play Café” with
a dessert buffet presented at intermission are among the events. For more information
on shows and events, contact the Edmonds Inn. Reservations are required for
events.
Whether served in your suite, or in the dining room, most guests would
agree, breakfast is a defining element of the B&B experience. Waddy is certainly
proficient with her scrumptious morning menus that feature Crème Brulee
French Toast, egg pots smothered in cheese and herbs, crepes and North West
eggs benedict with salmon. Vegetarian and vegan diet guests are deliciously
catered to as well, just make sure to make mention of your needs in advance.
Waddy also provides a lovely contemporary afternoon savory to sweet
tea for guests, served in fine china and accompanying fresh baked
delicacies and
teas from around the world. For visitors who only wish to partake
of afternoon tea,
reservations are required.
The Edmonds Inn is a superlative B&B and Waddy, a proprietor of grace and
dedication. She is happy to help guests with requests, whether it’s acquiring
a special bottle of wine and flowers for a surprise, or providing guests with
a complete and current notebook listing local restaurants. Guests will find
delightful extra amenities, first-rate service and a strong desire to return
to The Edmonds Inn by the misty Sound. For additional information, contact
