Monty Moss &
The Broken-Record Band

By Michael P. Jones

It’s not a unique combination, but it’s a winning one that you’d expect from a successful business: Excellent food, a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere and outstanding music. In a nutshell, this describes the Route 26 Bar & Grill, 39024 Proctor Blvd., in Sandy, a great place for individuals, couples and families.

This is also where the country band Monty Moss & The Broken-Record Band finds a home-away-from-home while up on stage on a regular basis. They are drawing good crowds and developing a strong following amongst folks who expect the best. Route 26 is noted for not only the quality of their music, but its diversity in music. Although Monty Moss & The Broken-Record Band is just one example of the country music bands that are featured on its stage, there are many more acts that fill the club with great tunes. Yet, the music is always changing and includes such types as classic rock and blues.

The musical entertainment takes to the stage at 8:45 p.m. Bands perform until the stroke of midnight. Every Sunday night, when no bands are featured, the stage does not lay empty. Instead, there is a jam session that starts at 7 to 11 p.m., drawing some talented folks sharing their abilities.

Monty Moss & The Broken-Record Band is the product of a father and son collaboration, accompanied by some other great musicians. They feature outstanding original tunes and definitely know how to put on a show by interweaving both the traditional and contemporary country sound.

Gerald Moss, bass-player, is the father of Monty. He has a rich musical background, playing with a variety of country bands throughout the West Coast; however, music took a backseat while he raised a family. Then a few years ago, he and his son came together and formed what became known as Monty Moss & The Broken-Record Band, dedicated to performing and recording absolutely great music their own way.

The stage presence of the band is one of sheer professionalism. It reaches deep into their music, seizes their songs and keeps the audiences coming back. When Monty Moss & The Broken-Record Band steps in front of the audience, they give the crowd not only the kind of country music that even the most discriminating taste would expect, but they have a great attitude showing that they appreciate people coming out to listen to them. They are the kind of musical entertainment that any club would want to feature because they are very easy to work with, stresses Cliff Risner, manager of Route 26. Risner also stresses that the Route 26 Bar & Grill offers more than just quality music to the public. Instead, its overall friendly atmosphere is also perfect for families to eat and relax.

The restaurant portion of Route 26 is open for breakfast at 7 a.m., features great specialties for lunch and dinner and closes at 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, their great food is served until 10 p.m. Breakfast hours are from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, service is from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of omelets are featured for breakfast, served with pancakes or hash browns and toast, a great selection of pancakes, waffles and French toast; and more like steak and eggs, chicken fried steak and eggs, eggs benedict and biscuits and gravy. The entrees also include the popular “Route 26 Breakfast Sandwich,” that blends eggs, Canadian bacon and cheese on a muffin, served alongside hash browns or fruit.

Lunch at Route 26 features some of the best hamburgers around. Always fresh and never frozen, these one-half pounders are served a variety of ways, including Hawaiian, mushroom, bacon, chili, ranch and the ever-popular “Route 26 Hamburger.”

Chicken burgers are also popular. These are one-third pound natural chicken breasts. The choices range from those made with cheese, mushrooms, barbecue, Malibu and Hawaiian, as well as the delicious “Route 26 Chicken Burger” and the “Route 26 Chicken Cheese Burger”.

There is also the premium soup of the day, which changes daily. On Friday, you can expect their popular clam chowder.
Dinner favorites range from chicken strips to halibut pieces and fries, to golden shrimp and fries, to clam strips and fries, to even filet of halibut, lots of pasta choices and even a chicken breast meal. Steak dinners include top sirloin and New York steak. There’s also a steak combo that features prawns. The Mexican food at Route 26 is also some of the best you’ll find anywhere. This includes nachos, quesadillas, burrito supremes and taco salads.

An excellent dinner choice at Route 26 would be their specialty prime rib. Slow oven- cooked to make it tender and juicy, it’s served with au jus and horseradish.

Monty Moss & The Broken-Record Band and the Route 26 Bar & Grill are definitely a great combination. This excellent country band will return to this club’s stage once again on March 26 - 27.

You can catch the band on stage playing their great brand of county music throughout the Portland Metropolitan Area, as well as on stages throughout the entire State of Oregon, at clubs, private parties, festivals, and at a variety of other venues.
