The Candy Store Now Features
Top Bands/ Myron LeRoy And The
faithful Few
by Lauree Carlsen
The Candy Store, located at 10346 N.E. Halsey, is taking on
a new challenge. Long-time owner Patricia O’Halleran, who has always
offered the best in food and fun for her clientele, is taking on
the challenge of adding the best Portland bands to her establishment.
This night the talented band was Myron LeRoy And The Faithful
Few. These seasoned musicians are: lead vocalist Myron LeRoy, rhythm
and lead guitar; Boyd Martin on drums; and Dan Seymour on bass guitar.
Their song list covers a lot of ground.
Myron LeRoy is one of those people born to sing. The crowd
stops talking just to hear every phrase of his powerful rich and
gravelly voice. He knows how to use dynamics, whether singing softly,
or belting it out. He attributes some of his soul to listening to
such artists as Jimi Hendrix and The Grateful Dead.
LeRoy traveled the concert rock tours selling electric yo
yos. He has opened for bands in the ‘80s such as Boogie Country,
Scott Steel and Alley Rice, respectively, with Trigger’s Revenge.
He played the Euphoria Tavern way back when.
LeRoy has worked hard on the guitar and you can tell. He is
quite accomplished in this area, as well with his rhythm and soulful
leads. He also has many originals and is working on a CD. This will
be a CD worth checking out! He is available for guitar lessons at
Newburg Music Guitar Center.
Dan Seymour is a veteran on the bass guitar and a singer as
well. He is noted to have played with local greats Robbie Laws, Tye
Curtis, Jake Blair, Jade Hoffer, Garry Meziere and Lee Blake. He
makes the bass look easy with his casual demeanor. His bass runs
are tantalizing and work well with drummer Boyd Martin, on the drums
since he was 11 years old and playing ever since.
A wide range of melodies included such as Hound Dog, Summertime
Blues, Fever, My Heart Will Follow You As the Years Go By, Mo Jo
Working, Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone and some great originals
coming up on the new CD.
The crowd had a great time this night listening to this band.
When Mustang Sally rang out every girl in the place jumped
up to dance! This writer too! So if you are looking to hire a seasoned,
fun, great band for your event, wedding or Bar Mitzvah, or when they
are playing the Candy Store again, be sure and call. To reach Myron
LeRoy directly, call 503-939-2272. You can reach The Candy Store
at 503-939-2272.
Patricia
O’Halleran still makes the Candy
Store a fun and welcome place to visit, whether it be a newcomer or
a familiar face. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly and attentive
to your needs. Waiter David Mull, with a grand hairdo and flame colored
shirt, let us know about the specials, several picks for only $2. Some
of them included pizza, corn on the cob, garlic fries, pasta salad
and penne pasta with white sauce and shrimp, one of this writer’s favorites.
Different specials are offered every day.
The setting is very quaint with a wrap-around stone fireplace, a dance
floor, bandstand and extra room filled with pool and games. They offer
all the usual Oregon Lottery games, plus pool, pinball and darts. Two
pianos are placed against opposite walls, welcoming dueling pianos.
Happy hour starts at 4 and goes to 7 p.m.
O’Halleran and managers now run a jam session everyday from 11 to 2:30
p.m. It is a great place for musicians to meet, play and have a great
time. This jam draws all kinds of people and sounds. Bands can audition
at this time or talk to the management about the live music offered.
Look for future great artists to be playing at the Candy Store.
It is the upcoming hot spot for the best in live entertainment. Be
ready to choose a list of great food, games, and fun. See you there!
