San Francisco based Creeper Lagoon, a cult fave indie
band, has made the jump from NickelBag records to major label DreamWorks
Records with a formidable new CD entitled Take Back The Universe
And Give Me Yesterday.
A melding of complex instrumental architecture, unsullied
production value and speculative lyrics gives the band's new CD an appealing
vitality. Tunes such as Wrecking Ball and Hey Sister are
indicative of the group's ability to write great melodic guitar rock
imbued with vigor and substance. Tracks Naked Days and Lover's
Leap are consistent with the ethereal quality that differentiates
Creeper Lagoon's music. The bevy of incredible producers that came onboard,
such as former Talking Head Jerry Harrison (Live, Stroke 9), Dave Fridmann
(Flaming Lips, Weezer), Greg Wells (Crash Test Dummies), Mark Trombino
(Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182) and Creeper themselves facilitate the polished
sound achieved on the album.
While the CD has captured immediate interest from fans
and national radio stations, Creeper 's new recording has been thrown
into the critic's controversy ring. The ongoing debate is over the deviation
in production sound from their previous debut album I Become Small
And Go. Admittedly the unique quality of the band's first album
is what catapulted them into their current level of success, but their
new material has an energy and cohesiveness that was lacking in past
productions.
DJ Bill Reid, of Seattle's The End (KNDD) FM radio station
is an advocate of Creeper Lagoon's musical evolvement. Reid spins cuts
from Take Back The Universe on his Sunday evening show Loudspeaker.
With positive feedback and a growing fan base, Reid states, "This
is the band's best album, I love it. I think they're one of those bands
that's bubbling under, it could happen anytime!"
The music and lyrics on Take Back The Universe
are reflective of the individual members of the band. The joys and heartaches
of living a musician's stressful and uncertain life is also laid to
bare, yet the admissions only avail themselves to the depth and maturity
that Creeper's art has taken.
The controversy concerning the group's production values
and conversion from indie band to "big pop" will probably
rage on for a while, but one point is clearly evident; everyone is talking,
and everyone is listening!
Release date for Creeper Lagoon's Take Back The Universe
And Give Me Yesterday is April 17. For more information, check out
