Thatcher's
By Rae Gordon
You can almost
miss Thatcher's along this dark and lonely stretch of Stark. Nestled
in the block between 79th and 80th, not too far from I205, this bar
and restaurant is an unassuming spot that is well worth your time. The
waitresses greet you with a smile. The booths are dark and cozy. There's
enough seating around the small tables and fulllength bar, you'll feel
so much at home that you'll want to take your shoes off.
Thatcher's offers
a full menu and bar. The cream of potato soup is just right and a turkey
on sourdough hits the spot. A happy hour gem from 4 to 7 p.m. is the
hamburger and fries for $1.95 or just fries for a dollar. The kitchen
usually closes at 11 p.m. but be sure to check. They also have poker
machines, Keno and pool.
The pool tables
are hiding in the back, so you'll have to search them out. On Sundays,
Thatcher's provides a great time hosting bingo from 7 to 9 p.m. And
now, with the newly added pleasure of Karaoke, it makes it even more
worth your while to stop by. Edie and Dalton run the fun from 9 p.m.
to closing. They're there Tuesay through Thursday and again on Saturday.
As good singers in their own right, they're not too selfish to share
and motivate you to come into the limelight.
If you are so
inclined, there's a small dance floor to do your own fancy footwork.
It's difficult to see the singers from the booths, so be sure to sit
at a table if you want a good view. The Karaoke songbook specializes
in country and classic rock 'n' roll and consists of some songs that
are hard to find elsewhere. Even though the bulk of the book is country
and classic rock, you might find a good Celine Dion or Whitney Houston
song hiding in there somewhere.
Regular hours
for Thatcher's are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. and
Sunday, 1 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
